I started playing tennis at the age of 5, and started stringing racquets 15 years ago at the age of 13. In my time stringing i've strung thousands of racquets, strung for specialist tennis stores, private clients, and have been a stringer at elite national level tournaments. I have strung for beginners through to touring pro's. In my time stringing racquets, I developed a passion for racquets, seeing every racquet as a very special and individual tool with individual taste of strings, grips, and tensions. I have never EVER seen two identical racquets from two different people, as despite many using the same frame, everybody has their own choice of grips, strings, string tensions, shock absorbers etc. This got me thinking, at around the age of 18, that surely you could also modify the racquet itself to your individual needs.
I began to get my own racquets professionally customised at that time, and for the first time, i was winning matches in tournaments which I never would have come close to at an earlier age. Weights, precisely placed at specific points on my racquets, enhanced my game & technique by enabling faster, cleaner racquet head speed, and more weight behind my shots. I began to add to the modifications which others had done to my racquets, adding a quarter of a gram at a time and realising what a difference this tiny adjustment had made.
I eventually did some studies in biomechanics at university. This opened my mind to how individual each and every player is. It baffled me why thousands of players around the world, all different ages, heights, strength levels, techniques, and physical make-ups would use the same racquet, bought off the shelf worldwide. This new knowledge, combined with over a decade playing at national level, and coaching high performance players, prompted me to purchase my own machinery to allow me to customise racquets.
Fast-forward to present day, and I now have close to a decade of experience in the racquet modification field. I have never advertised this customising business, only gained more customers through word of mouth from the quality racquets (and results) that my work had provided for players. The work has been so productive, that I have recently spent time with some of our country's best players, including recently working with Jordan Thompson, Australian Davis Cup squad member.
